The GOOD OLD Days
My childhood was a simple and uncomplicated one. I have these old and pleasant memories when I did not have to be really excited to be happy. A scoop of ice cream, big trucks, elephants, monkeys, double deckers, the roaring sea, anything and everything pleasant made me happy. But things have taken a total U turn today. I see kids today often carrying i-pods, chatting on the net, going to these fast food joints, talking the adult language, over grown to their age and thought. Is this natural? or am I outdated? Do we really have to instruct our kids to converse in English and not our Maatr Basha. Does ''Maa, Amma, Pappa'' become MOM, POP or maybe DUDE, I don't know. Well, you may call me old-fashioned or conservative. But are we not losing our culture, our so called Indian values by trying to imitate the foreign? And why do we think that "western means hard rock, tattoos, body piercing, marijuana, pubs, fake accent, etc''. Let us look at some of the western countires like Scotland and Australia. People here are not ashamed of what their origins are. And they do not have to try too hard to retain their heritage, because they believe in it. Why have we to be so inferior of our origins? Yes we are INDIANS, but you know what, we don't celebrate our festivals, we don't go to temples, we don't touch the feet of our elders, we don't wear sarees anymore, we migrate to western lands, we don't have enough opportunities here, India is still lagging behind, blah, blah, blah....
Let us wake up from our hypnotic sleep before it is too late. Let us hope we do not have to watch our children end up in rehabs and therapy centers or covered up totally in tattos that it becomes difficult to identify them. Let us protect the coming generations from abuse and chaos.
